The Gospel of Luke is the third book of the New Testament and the longest of the four Gospels. Traditionally attributed to Luke, a physician and companion of the Apostle Paul, it is addressed to a man named Theophilus as a careful, orderly account "so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught." Luke is the first of a two-part work, continued in the Acts of the Apostles. Its great theme is that Jesus is the Saviour of all people — reaching out to the poor, the sick, sinners, women, and Gentiles — and it places special emphasis on prayer, joy, and the work of the Holy Spirit.
Who Are the Key Characters in the Gospel of Luke?
Bible quiz questions frequently test character names, roles, and relationships. The key figures in the early chapters of Luke include:
- Jesus — the central figure; presented as the compassionate Saviour of all people.
- Mary — the mother of Jesus, who receives the angel Gabriel's message and sings the Magnificat.
- Zechariah and Elizabeth — the elderly couple who become the parents of John the Baptist.
- John the Baptist — the forerunner, born to Elizabeth, who prepares the way for Jesus.
- The angel Gabriel — who announces the births of both John and Jesus.
- The shepherds — the first to hear of Jesus' birth from the angels.
- Simeon and Anna — the devout elders who recognise the infant Jesus in the temple.
- The Good Samaritan — the figure in Jesus' parable who shows mercy to a stranger.
What Makes the Gospel of Luke Unique?
Luke stands out from the other Gospels in ways that are popular quiz topics. It contains the fullest account of Jesus' birth and infancy, including the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Magnificat, the shepherds, and the presentation in the temple. It preserves parables found in no other Gospel — most famously the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son. Written with a physician's eye for detail, Luke highlights Jesus' compassion for the poor, the outcast, and women, and gives special attention to prayer, joy, and the Holy Spirit. It is also the only Gospel with a sequel — the Acts of the Apostles — by the same author.

Frequently Asked Questions — Gospel of Luke Bible Quiz in Malayalam
The Gospel of Luke has 24 chapters in the POC Bible Malayalam edition. It is the longest of the four Gospels and the first volume of a two-part work continued in the Acts of the Apostles.
Traditionally Luke, a physician and companion of the Apostle Paul. He addressed both his Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles to a man named Theophilus, writing a careful, orderly account based on eyewitness testimony.
Luke presents Jesus as the compassionate Saviour of all people. It contains the fullest account of Jesus' birth, the Magnificat, and parables found nowhere else — such as the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son — and emphasises prayer, joy, the Holy Spirit, and concern for the poor.
The Annunciation is the announcement by the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and bear Jesus, the Son of God, by the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:26–38). Mary replied, "I am the Lord's servant; may it be to me as you have said."
The Magnificat is Mary's song of praise in Luke 1:46–55, spoken during her visit to Elizabeth. It begins, "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour," and is prayed daily in the Church's evening prayer.
In Luke 10:25–37, Jesus answers "Who is my neighbour?" with the story of a man beaten on the road. A priest and a Levite pass by, but a Samaritan stops, cares for him, and pays for his recovery — teaching that being a true neighbour means showing mercy to anyone in need.
Simeon and Anna were two devout elderly people who recognised the infant Jesus as the Messiah when he was presented in the temple (Luke 2:25–38). Simeon held the child and spoke the Nunc Dimittis, and Anna, a prophetess, gave thanks and spoke about him to all awaiting redemption.
According to Luke chapter 2, Jesus was born in Bethlehem, where Mary and Joseph travelled for a census ordered by Caesar Augustus. With no room in the inn, Jesus was laid in a manger, and angels announced his birth to shepherds.
